When backups are deactivated

Title:
gedit refuses to save file when backup cannot be created.

Status in Light-Weight Text Editor for Gnome:
  Fix Released
Status in gedit package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  To reproduce:

  1. Make a directory with a text file inside it.
  2. Change permissions on the directory so that you do not have write access.
  3. Make sure you still have write access to the text file.
  4. Open the text file with gedit, change it, and attempt to save.
  5. Click "save anyway."

Gedit displays a warning that it cannot back up the text file, with a
"save anyway" button. Clicking "save anyway" does nothing, the file is
  not saved.
