[Bug 525717] Re: [Upstream] Writer Format Paintbrush formats more than selection
I hope as a result of this, the Format Paintbrush behaviour will be
changed. It is very confusing for users who have previously used
Microsoft Office and discover that the formatting is being applied to a
whole paragraph instead of selected characters; this is VERY
frustrating. It's easy to see why people like myself considered this to
be a bug.

Bug description:

1) lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu oneiric (development branch)
Release: 11.10
2) apt-cache policy libreoffice-writer
libreoffice-writer:
Installed: 1:3.4.2-2ubuntu3
Candidate: 1:3.4.2-2ubuntu3
Version table:

3) What is expected to happen in LibreOffice Writer via the Terminal:
cd ~/Desktop && wget
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/525717/+attachment/2369876/+files/example.odt
&& lowriter -nologo example.odt
when one uses the mouse and selects the blue text → clicks Format
Paintbrush → selects “jumps over” in the green text, only those two
words have their format changed.
4) What happens instead is “jumps over” changed to the desired
formatting but the font, font color, and size of the words to the left
and right, as well as the paragraph justification changed to Default
Formatting.
WORKAROUND: Use the mouse and select the blue text → click Format
Paintbrush → press and hold the Ctrl key -> select “jumps over” in the
green text then let go.
Original Report Comments: Note to OpenOffice.org: this happens in the
Windows version of OpenOffice too.
