Problem continued after fresh install, with latest v4 kernel from mainline.
No longer have this laptop so cannot do further testing on this bug.
Will keep bug here for anyone else who may come across this issue.

  Screen flickers on 2nd monitor when mouse touches top of screen

Bug description:
  Lenovo Yoga 3 11 with second monitor connected by HDMI.
  In Settings > Monitors, I have my second display above my primary laptop display.
  When I move my mouse to the top edge of the second display, the second display's screen flickers extremly fast sideways, as if the entire desktop is flashing past sideways.
  Moving the mouse down and away from the top edge returns display to normal.

  Ubuntu 15.04 with 4.1.0-040100rc2-generic kernel. Has happened with
  all of the 4.0 and 4.1 kernels so far.
