Colin, we'd like to fix this bug but the problem is that Keyboard
Shortcuts works for us and you haven't given a series of steps where you
can show how it doesn't work. Here's a couple suggestions:

1. Try from an Oneiric live CD.

2. Or run unity --reset  . This will reset all of your Compiz & Unity
settings back to the defaults. I don't think this is a problem with the
default install but perhaps you've set a conflicting setting in CCSM.
CCSM is not supported with Unity, in the sense that it offers easy
access to way too many ways to break Unity. A simpler Unity configurator
addon is talked about but it would take someone to code it.

  unable to set keyboard shortcuts

Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  System Settings->Shortcuts. The shortcuts do not respond when trying to edit a shortcut, nor is there any response when pressing Backspace to clear.
  Problem is present in both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot).
