  when opening a file using gedit, an unwanted blank document tab also
  opens

Status in gedit package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  When I close the redundant blank window, it asks me to save.  I've
  never made any changes to the window, so there's nothing to save.  The
  extra tab should not have been created.
