Title:
Both xubuntu and lubuntu crash after reaching desktop

Status in xserver-xorg-video-ati package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
When I try the 14.04 beta2 ISOs, both xubuntu and lubuntu crash
seconds after reaching the desktop. It happens after about five
seconds with the former and about one second with the latter.

This happens on two machines, one with an A8 5500 APU, i.e. AMD Radeon
HD 7560D graphics, and one with an A4-5300 APU, i.e. AMD Radeon HD
  7480D graphics.

Because of the nature of the crash, it doesn't leave logfiles.

The MD5s of the ISO files verify, and the same memory sticks work fine
with two laptops... neither of which have AMD APUs.

I normally run Linux Mint 16 with the AMD Catalyst drivers, but it
also worked with the libre drivers with 13.10.
