[Bug 1277559] Re: Unknown chipset

Gerhard Burger, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better. As per
http://www.toshiba.co.uk/innovation/download_bios.jsp?service=UK an
update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (1.60).
If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible, and the
information above is provided, then please mark this report Status New.
Otherwise, please mark this as Invalid.

Thank you for your understanding.

Title:
  Unknown chipset

Status in xserver-xorg-video-nouveau package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I am trying to install Ubuntu on a new laptop and it's giving me a headache :P
On boot I get the message:

      [ 9.128711] nouveau E [ DEVICE] [0000:01:00.0] unknown chipset, 0x108120a1
      [ 9.128742] nouveau E [ DRM] failed to create 0x80000080, -22
      ...
      [ 9.128964] nouveau: probe of 0000:01:00.0 failed with -22

After which it boots in some very weird green mode, where the pixels
  are very visible.

  My system:

Toshiba Satellite L70-A-12W (with Geforce GT 740M with Optimus support)
Ubuntu 13.10 64 bit (although with 12.04, and 14.04 daily I have the same weird green screen)
