[Bug 1381378] Re: nVidia GK106 [GeForce GTX 645 OEM][10de:11c4] No DP audio with open source driver
Po-Hsu LIn, as per http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product-
support/product/alienware-x51-r2/drivers an update to your computer's
buggy and outdated BIOS is available (A10). If you update to this
following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change
anything?
If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible, and the
information above is provided, then please mark this report Status New.
Otherwise, please mark this as Invalid.
Thank you for your understanding.

Title:
nVidia GK106 [GeForce GTX 645 OEM][10de:11c4] No DP audio with open
source driver
Status in xserver-xorg-video-nouveau package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
CID: 201303-13031 Dell Alienware X51 R2
There is no audio output with Display port (audio for HDMI works fine)
A solution for this is to install the proprietary driver for this card
(i.e. nvidia-331)
I won't tag it with a blocker tag since it works with the proprietary
driver.
