Title:
Dash display corruption with nouveau on GeForce 6150SE
Status in xserver-xorg-video-nouveau package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
On a system with a GeForce 6150SE integrated GPU, opening and closing
the Dash a few times results in moderate or severe corruption, and
eventually a complete lockup where the display is completely scrambled
in a repeating pattern. When the lockup happens, the system stops
responding on the network as well.
In the attached dmesg, the ttm errors seem to be the relevant ones;
the MMIO errors go away when booting with "nouveau.config=PMPEG=0",
while the corruption and lockups still happen. I'm also attaching the
session log, which contains an interesting splat from nouveau.
This happens to me in quantal and every subsequent release, while it
does not happen in precise. Notably, precise does not show the problem
even when running a more recent kernel (via HWE stacks).
The nouveau splat mentioned "Cannot allocate memory", so I increased
the RAM allocated to the integrated GPU in the BIOS setup to the
maximum of 256M (the default is 128M). That seems to have fixed the
problem, even if I open a lot of windows and tabs.
Running the proprietary nvidia-304 driver on the same hardware,
everything works fine, regardless of the VRAM setting.
