Title:
Desktop icons are not visible when using an external display (12.04 +
  Unity)

Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
The "problem" still allows functionality. I have 12.04 on a T61
Thinkpad. The indicator/menu bar is rendered correctly on both screens
and everything with unity/dash is fine.

With an extended monitor display, the right-click feature "Organize
Desktop by Name" puts the icons on the Desktop is off to the top of
the laptop screen. See this screenshot:

In the screenshot I've shared a terminal window that has lists the
  desktop files/folders.

My desktop settings are here: http://i.imgur.com/5e9yQ.png

(Not sure if it matters, but the same thing happens with VGA
connection between the external monitor and the laptop, as well as
with the docking station and with both VGA and DVI.)

I have asked at askubuntu.com for this issue and have not had any
  answers: http://askubuntu.com/questions/211518/laptop-monitor-is-cut-
  off-when-using-an-external-display-12-04-unity
