Title:
Confusing Media Player Open With
Status in “totem” package in Ubuntu:
Expired
Bug description:
Binary package hint: totem
I'm using Totem with the gstreamer backend on Ubuntu intrepid synched
to the repos as of today 08/08/08. When I need to associate video
footage to open with Media Player by right clicking the file and
selecting open with another application, a user is presented with two
confusing elements for Movie Player. The first is Movie Player, the
second is Movie Player (Gstreamer).
This is not only confusing for a user, but it's also unnecessary for
the user to make a choice. I need Totem to use the gstreamer back end
as without it, it has no demuxers and decoders to play anything. It is
also confusing because even when Movie Player is selected instead of
the gstreamer variant, Totem's help about shows that gstreamer is in
fact being used as the backend anyway.
