Message #141191
[Bug 1312318] Re: brightness level not remembered on HP ZBook 15
I do have the latest version of BIOS installed. My computer is a dual-
boot one so that it installs BIOS updates when it runs Windows 7. The
problem with the brightness level persists. I am using ubuntu-MATE (see
below for more details on the OS).
Output of the sudo dmidecode ... command is:
L70 Ver. 01.33
07/21/2015
Please note that in HP they have a little ambiguity in dates of the BIOS
update: on their web page they show 29th July. To be sure that I really
have the latest BIOS installed, I tried to download the package from the
HP site and launched the binary (in Windows, just to see its
description). It showed its date as 21st July.
The bug description is the same as the original one: Anytime I boot up
the system, it always sets the display brightness to 100% which is too
much. I can control the brightness level using Fn F9 and Fn F10
combinations of keys. Unfortunately, my setting is not remembered. On
the contrary, in Windows 7 the brightness level that I choose remains
remembered.
BTW, today I made a clean installation of the newest 64-bit ubuntu
version: 15.10, with the MATE desktop. (I installed the newest daily
build from the 3rd October.) The brightness issue is the same as it was
in ubuntu-mate 15.04 and also in LinuxMint 17 which I was using for some
period in the past.

Title:
brightness level not remembered on HP ZBook 15
Status in xserver-xorg-video-intel package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
Anytime I boot up the system, it always sets the display brightness to
100%.
I can reduce the brighness using the Fn F9 key stroke. Similarly I
can increase the brighntess using the Fn F10 combination. (This did
not work until recently - see my bug report 1257766). However, even
now the chosen value is not remembered. After each start of the system
I have to set a convenient brightness level.
