Title:
gnome settings daemon doesn't start when lo is not configured
Status in “gnome-settings-daemon” package in Ubuntu:
Expired
Bug description:
Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon
When I log into gdm, GNOME takes a long time to start, and when it does start (mybe 3-5mins) i see the error below and everything starts to function.
There was an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon.
Some things, such as themes, sounds, or background settings may not
work correctly.
The last error message was:
Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote
application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy
blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network
connection was broken.
GNOME will still try to restart the Settings Daemon next time you log
in.
This only happens after i install a patched madwifi to activate my
wireless card, http://madwifi.org/ticket/1679 if i reinstall linux-
ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-17-generic the problem disappears but wireless
won't work. I've also tried installing 2.6.24-16-generic since i
upgraded when 2.6.24-17 became available but its the same.
Any ideas?
