Title:
  Software Center fails to start: BadWinidow

Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Software Center persistently fails to start. A window will appear, but
  will disappear within a few seconds, and the program exits.

  Running it from a console permitted me to grab these error details:

  jim@fuzzy:$ software-center

  2011-09-12 01:45:31,484 - softwarecenter.ui.gtk3.app - INFO - software-center-agent finished with status 1

  is not a native X11 window

  Gdk-ERROR **: The program 'software-center' received an X Window System error.
  This probably reflects a bug in the program.
  The error was 'BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)'.
    (Details: serial 1372 error_code 3 request_code 20 minor_code 0)
    (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
     that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
     To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
     option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
     backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
