Something possibly related. I have two other packages that are affected
by a rather nasty qt4 bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qt4-x11/+bug/805303 . To work
around that bug, I've installed qtconfig and used it to reconfigure qt
to run Motif style. This problem surfaces after I had done this, I
think. Even after changing style back to Default or gtk+, though Banshee
still isn't starting.

Bug description:
  Usually, I could launch Banshee from the notification area or dash,
  but at present, it won't go. I get the attached error output if I
  launch it from a console.

  Its info header gives the version info:
