Title:
Firefox download manager doesn't handle torrents
Status in Mozilla Firefox:
Won't Fix
Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
Triaged
Bug description:
Binary package hint: firefox-3.0
The Firefox download manager does not handle .torrent downloads.
Steps to reproduce:
* Navigate to a popular torrent site such as thepiratebay.org
* Search for "Big Buck Bunny" and click a relevant result
* Click the link to begin the download
Expected result:
* Firefox downloads Big Buck Bunny, as it would using HTTP or FTP
Actual result:
* Firefox downloads the .torrent file, offering to pass it on to Transmission.
Notes:
* This behavior is confusing to anyone who is not familiar with bittorrent, ie the "humans" for whom Ubuntu is designed.
