[Bug 849110] Re: Regression: keyboard backlight hotkeys no longer work

** Description changed:

They keyboard backlight control hotkeys on my Macbook Pro (3,1) no
longer function properly in 11.10. This is a regression from 11.04, and
  I believe a regression from 11.10 beta 1.

There are 3 keys on the keyboard:
- Keyboard backlight off
+ Keyboard backlight toggle
  Keyboard backlight down
  Keyboard backlight up

In 11.04, the keyboard backlight up/down keys adjusted the keyboard
backlight as expected, and the corresponding OSD notifications worked as
well. The 'keyboard backlight off' never functioned properly.

At some point after 11.10 beta 1, the keyboard backlight hotkeys stopped
functioning properly. The keyboard backlight is no longer controllable
using the hotkeys. Pressing any of the 3 hotkeys results in the 'full
backlight' OSD being displayed, with no change to the actual keyboard
  backlight.

I can still control the keyboard backlight manually from a command line. For example, to turn the keyboard backlight on to 100% then off:
  echo 255 | sudo tee -a /sys/class/leds/smc\:\:kbd_backlight/brightness
  echo 0 | sudo tee -a /sys/class/leds/smc\:\:kbd_backlight/brightness
