Title:
Proposed Change to Minimum Price amount
Status in software-center package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
This may not be a bug for the USC specifically, but rather the model
used for purchases.
I think the minimum price needs to change in order to attract more
developers and consumers to the platform (this will be especially
important when mobile is launched for mainstream usage). I understand
why the minimum amount exists, and why it probably can't go away any
time soon, however I believe there is a way that will allow for both
small purchases, while still maintaining profit on small purchases.
Looking at the way the Playstation Network handles purchases, you add
a certain amount of money to your wallet, and this amount can be no
lower than $5.00 (at least in my country). So even if you are buying
something that coses $0.49, you need to add $5.00 to your wallet,
leaving 4.51 left over (before taxes). This balance can then be used
for future purchases until you run out, then you must add more money
to your wallet.
If the above system is used for the USC (maybe $3.00 can be set as the
minimum amount added to a person's wallet), then they can buy several
smaller items from the store, and it would remain only a single credit
card transaction (at least on the user side).
