does not expect a backport

Title:
alsamixer settings get lost at reboot, (alsaconf not present)
Status in gnome-terminal package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
I expect the sound settings to be remembered on reboot. They get reset to speaker muted and zero levels. I expect to be able to save the settings if this isn't done automatically. (I expect all to work with google plus, my microphone didn't. I expect to be able to install vlc sound player without problems. I expect to be able to upgrade without problems.)

many people seem to have this problem and after installing the utils I can't find the alsaconf on my system.
The mixer settings get constantly reset to mute on speaker and sould at zero, so each time I reboot I have to open a terminal and type alsamixer, then unmute and set sound levels again. This bug caused endless problems as being new to linux I was trying all sorts of sound mixer installs, then removing again, to the novice user the sound simply stops working and there is no indication why unless you eventually figure out how alsamixer works. The different screens in the utility are confusing, then the key strokes are not at all obvious. You need to redesign the interface to be more user friendly and to actually work and save a good set of default settings. Then test on users who have never encountered it before.
