Title:
Screen brightness reverts to lowest level

Status in “gnome-power-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

When I change the screen brightness level in the power management
preferences, the brightness level changes correctly as I move the
brightness slider, and the brightness notification on screen also
correctly reflects the brightness. However, 1 to 2 seconds after
changing the brightness, the screen brightness goes back down to the
lowest level. The on screen brightness indicator (but not the slider
control) correctly reflects the progress down to the lowest level. If
I change the brightness using the brightness adjustment on the
keyboard, the adjustment stays until I logout or restart. The
brightness also reverts to the lowest level each time the login screen
displays and after gnome has loaded when login is complete. The on
screen brightness indicator tracks the brightness as it moves down to
  the lowest level.

My laptop is a Nexlink Versatility 15.4C XP using Ubuntu Maverick with
  latest updates as of 01/22/2011.
