[Bug 1249304] Re: network-manager doesn't permit two cable connections with different IPV4 method

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many
changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem
may have been fixed with some of the updates.

I'm going to close this bug report as their is nothing else we can do
with this old report in a now unsupported version of Ubuntu. If you
still have this issue on Ubuntu 14.04 or higher, please do reopen or
report a new bug.

Title:
network-manager doesn't permit two cable connections with different
  IPV4 method

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
I have a cable connection with fixed IP and nm manages it perfectly.

If I disconnect it and connect my smartphone with tethering, nm show
the 2 cable connections, but will manage the usb connection with the
same static IP of my ethernet cable connection. In order to have the
usb connection working I must change the IPV4 method of usb connection
  to DHCP.

But when I disconnect the usb connection, I find that the ethernet
connection has become a DHCP one, and the static IP I had is lost!

That's quite annoying, and impides a non-geek user to use usb
tethering if he/she has a static IP ethernet connection
