Title:
gnome-panel crashed with SIGSEGV in malloc()

Status in gnome-panel package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gnome-panel

when clicking shiny switcher to go to a new screen the bottom panel dissapears. changing screens with the mouse does not bring it back. alt tab bring up apps from the panel. and the bottom panel appears and top panel dissapears.
  I removed shiny switcher

so I logged off and back on - this is perhaps when the crash happened
  - and yes it may be related to the non-free video drivers. I'm getting
used to them being blamed for all my problems but the system is much
harder to use without. I submitted but will stop submitting if this
proves to be another video driver issue.
