[Bug 1538538] [NEW] unable to configure socks5 proxy

Public bug reported:

Hi there,

I'm using Linux Mint but I guess that's my error is relevant to here as well:
RELEASE=17.1
CODENAME=rebecca
EDITION="Cinnamon 64-bit"
DESCRIPTION="Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca"
DESKTOP=Gnome
TOOLKIT=GTK
NEW_FEATURES_URL=http://www.linuxmint.com/rel_rebecca_cinnamon_whatsnew.php
RELEASE_NOTES_URL=http://www.linuxmint.com/rel_rebecca_cinnamon.php
USER_GUIDE_URL=help:linuxmint
GRUB_TITLE=Linux Mint 17.1 Cinnamon 64-bit

I noticed that in the last couple of days (I guess due to some package upgrade), when I configure a system-wide proxy setting using the network-manager, the system default socks proxy would be socks4 instead of socks5.
My proxy server is socks5 so when I try to use cURL or any other tool I receive an error:
curl: (7) SOCKS4 reply has wrong version, version should be 4.
I can override that by specifying flags like "curl --socks5", but that's just a work around to ignore the system-wide setting...

I know the network-manager actually sets the a gsetting in
'org.gnome.system.proxy', but I couldn't find any place to specify the
TYPE of proxy (either socks4, socks4a or socks5).

** Affects: network-manager (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
