[Bug 682879] Re: Installation of software from the software centre often stalls halfway, and never continues. It also prevents the pc from shutting down (hours later)

Thanks for this report, and sorry for the slow response.

Since you say the problem also occurs with Synaptic, this is probably a
problem in apt, not in USC. Moving there.

If you still experience the problem, you could also help get this bug fixed by providing the error message:
1. close Ubuntu Software Center (or Synaptic), if it's open already
2. enter the command "software-center" (or "sudo synaptic") in a Terminal window
3. trigger the error
4. copy any error output from the Terminal window, and paste it into this bug report.

** Package changed: software-center (Ubuntu) => apt (Ubuntu)

Title:
Installation of software from the software centre often stalls
halfway, and never continues. It also prevents the pc from shutting
  down (hours later)

Status in “apt” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: software-center

Often when I want to install new software from the software centre,
the installation stalls halfway, and never continues. Today I tried to
install Blender, but it also happened when trying to install LMMS,
  Muse, and other audio/video software.

Installing from synaptic is more succesful, though not always.
