Thanks for this report, Jack, and sorry for the slow response.

It would not be appropriate to require commercial vendors to use
Launchpad as a bug tracker. We're trying to make it much easier for
vendors to offer software for Ubuntu. And as great as Launchpad is, most
vendors already have a (public or private) bug tracker elsewhere,  so
requiring them to use Launchpad as well (or instead) would be
counterproductive.

We do, however, plan to let application vendors provide a "Report a
problem" link in Ubuntu Software Center, so that they can handle user-
reported problems however they wish.

  I have a few apps from the 'For Purchase' section.
  Trying to use ubuntu-bug <package> for these says that the package is not a genuine Ubuntu package
  Being able to report bugs in these apps on Launchpad should be possible and a requirement for vendors and would give a good overview of any problems with these programs
