What package exactly did you remove? Just "apt-xapian-index" ?

Title:
The Software Center does not show any packages

Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
The Software Center shows software categories normally, but these
categories are all empty. It does not show any available packages. It
shows the installation history just fine, but only for the current
month apparently (I don't know if this is the correct behaviour or
not). On the other hand, Synaptic shows the available packages
correctly, it also shows the entire installation history (several
months, not just the current one). I have removed the xapian indexing,
though (it used too much resources and heated up my computer). I'm not
sure if this affects the Software Center.
