[Bug 689997] Re: SC silently fails to start: softwarecenter.backend - ERROR - aptdaemon import failed

Thanks for your bugreport.

Is this still a problem? This sounds like this was churn during the
development.

Title:
  SC silently fails to start: softwarecenter.backend - ERROR - aptdaemon
  import failed

Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: software-center

  Freshly reinstalled natty, attempting to run Software Centre gives no
  result. Trying again from the command-line produces:

    $ software-center
    2010-12-14 03:01:01,958 - softwarecenter.backend - ERROR - aptdaemon import failed
    Traceback (most recent call last):
      File "/usr/share/software-center/softwarecenter/backend/aptd.py", line 39, in <module>
        from aptdaemon.defer import inline_callbacks, return_value
    ImportError: No module named defer
    Need the latest aptdaemon, try "sudo apt-add-repository ppa:software-store-developers/ppa" to get the PPA

  seems likely that something is missing a hard or versioned dependency.

    aptdaemon = 0.40+bzr529-0ubuntu1
    software-center = 3.1.3
