[Bug 803023] Re: For Purchase Apps: Console description should be authoritative

Why isn't the submission system requiring vendors to enter a description
in the first place? It seems to me that the package description in the
control file should be generated from text the vendor enters. (And if
the vendor's already packaged it themselves, maybe the submission system
should extract the Description and present it for optional updating.)

If we used text from somewhere else instead, then in five years, the
large majority of packages would have a "Description:" field that wasn't
being used. There might be a good reason for phasing it out, but I don't
think this is it.

(Setting back to Confirmed since the solution isn't clear.)

Title:
For Purchase Apps: Console description should be authoritative

Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Can we, just for For Purchase apps, *always* show the description that
is entered in the dev portal rather than showing the long desc in the
control file after the package is installed. Right now we package
first and publish later; often times, the vendor doesn't provide me a
description so I have to find one on their website or create one, or
even if they do, they often change it at the last minute resulting in
the description being (sometimes vastly) different pre-install versus
  post-install.

I would prefer, and from talking to a couple of vendors they would as
well, that the Dev Portal description be authoritative.
