Thanks for the report. Unfortunately I can't find the .deb in question
on Canon's Web site.
<http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/categorySiteMap.action?pageKeyCode=categorySiteMap&nodeCid=0901e02480069f6b&expanded=true>
shows drivers for MP500, MP510, MP520, MP530, and MP560, but not MP540.

Please let us know exactly where you found the package that didn't
install. Thanks.
