thank you for your bug report, the greeter is maintained and part of the
lightdm source, it got ported to gtk3 this cycle, the background name is
there for historical reason (user configurations point to it and can't
be changed on upgrade, renaming the wallpaper would break user who have
a config pointing to the old name)

  Apparently the default settings for the gtk-greeter haven't been
  updated in a few years, as the default settings still reference
  "warty.png" as the background image, etc.

  How about dropping the package if it's not maintained
