[Bug 693693] Re: Should *not* be possible to quit SC while an action is In-Progress

Ubuntu Software Center does not have a Quit command at all, so strictly
speaking, this report is Invalid. :-)

Now, I understand that it might be surprising that installation/removal
tasks continue when the USC window is closed. (Actually, I discovered
yesterday that they continue even if you're logged out completely.) But
consider the alternative: as Vish described, we would need to either put
up an error message saying that you couldn't close the window, or put up
a confirmation alert asking if you wanted to switch to showing progress
in the background. And all other things being equal, a design that does
not require an alert box is better than one that does.

That leaves only the challenge of notifying you that a task has finished
when the window isn't there to do it, which is bug 528584. But even
insisting on having the window open wouldn't really fix that bug -- as
demonstrated by the fact that none of that report's current three
duplicates even mention the window being closed. They're complaining
about lack of notification in general.

Title:
Should *not* be possible to quit SC while an action is In-Progress

Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: software-center

  Steps to reproduce:
1: Install/Remove an application from software center
2: While the action is still "In-Progress" quit Software Center
  3: Software center happily quits.

What happened was: I was installing an application and while it was
taking time to download and install, i was browsing SC. After a while
i forgot about the installation and just quit SC. On quitting I
realized that i was installing an app and the app was not in the
applications menu. When I opened SC again it showed the installation
still as "In-Progress" (installation had not completed).

While it is neat that SC did not quit installation and apt-daemon kept running, this is a unique behavior with SC. In all other applications all related processes quit once the main app quits. or atleast they inform that the app is still performing an action.
And it is odd that starting an application shows as something already "In-progress"

  What should happen is either:
  - SC mentions that there is an action in-progress and prevent SC from quitting
  - SC mentions that there is an action in-progress and ask confirmation to switch to installation/removal in the background.
  - or atleast switch to a smaller in-progress window, apt-daemon's.
