[Bug 856042] Re: Installation of Labyrinth fails with no error message given

And now after this morning's partial upgrade, I lost hplip and cannot
get it back. This is getting extremely annoying when I lose and cannot
reinstall packages that I use on a daily basis. The Software Center, at
the very least, should show a window explaining why the (re)installation
of affected packages fails rather than silently mocking you.

** Attachment added: "Video of the problem, using hplip as an example."
   https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/software-center/+bug/856042/+attachment/2446976/+files/SoftwareCenterFailedInstallation.webm

** Description changed:

When I try to install the Labyrinth mind-mapping software (labyrinth
0.4.1-0ubuntu5 as indicated in the Software Center), it appears to
install at first, except the progress bar fills up very rapidly then
goes back to being an "Install" button, with no visible explanation
given of why the installation failed.

Trying to install Labyrinth from apt-get in a terminal also fails,
  producing the following output:

  christopher@Xyz:~$ sudo apt-get install labyrinth
