There is nothing particular you have to do; the problem you had is
already fixed, right? I'm just curious about if you did something
special that created the latin1 locale.

  Instead of displaying special characters are displayed "boxes marked
  with x"

  Also occurs in gdebi-gtk, apport and lxdm
