Title:
ask.com is the only navigation toolbar search engine alternative

Status in “firefox” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in “firefox-3.5” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: firefox-3.5

  Possibly related to bug #383484
I had not configured any search engines for firefox-3.0, but used the default Google in the Navigation tool bar. After upgrading, the only choice available is adk.com
[ask.com is rather useless for me, being unable to limit searches to either my home country or my native language. Anyway, someone else overriding my preferences for search engines is definitely uncool.]

There is a choice to manage search engines, which again leads to the
general Mozilla plugin search page, where there does not seem to be
any straight google search plugin. I am looking for the simple default
that was there in 3.0, not a new toolbar or some fancy additional
  functionality.
