Title:
disabling laptop monitor disables external monitor

Status in “gnome-settings-daemon” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

On a Thinkpad X201 with external display port monitor:
Initially both laptop display and external monitor are active with same resolution.

System -> Preferences -> Monitor Preferences

Uncheck "Same image in all monitors".

  Monitor: Laptop
  Select 'Off'

Result: Both laptop display and external display turn off

Expected result: External display should remain off.

Workaround: disable gnome-settings-daemon randr and xsettings plugins.
X will use the highest resolution by default.

  cd /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon-2.0
  mv libxrandr.so libxrandr.so.broken
  mv libxsettings.so libxsettings.so.broken
