  Background shifted to the right, uncovered area shows garbage

Bug description:
  I did a software update this afternoon, and after rebooting saw the
  attached screenshot. If I drag windows around, they leave trails in
  the area without a wallpaper, so it seems like there's no redrawing
  going on there.
