Title:
evince does not use system fonts for fonts not embedded to the pdf
  document

Status in “evince” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: evince

Evince fails to display the document

     http://www.freescale.com/files/dsp/doc/ref_manual/IMX23RM.pdf

properly, which means, most characters are shown as a rectangle. I
suspect this is because the font used for such characters is not
embedded into the PDF document. Nevertheless times, or at least
supplementation fonts are available on the system. While xpdf shows
the same behaviour, epdfviewer and okular have no problem displaying
the document properly. Hence I feel there is no problem with my
  ubuntu 11.04 / unity / Evince 2.32.0 installation.
