Message #27768
[Bug 864710] Re: Software Centre provides different results for "music applet" and "applet music"
Thanks for the report. As I explained on Twitter, USC uses live search,
and live search is much more efficient if it does not assume that the
last word is a complete word. But it is also more likely to produce
relevant results if it does assume that every other word is a complete
word.
So it is not a bug that "music applet" and "applet music" return
different results, and if that was all this bug report was about, I
would mark it Invalid. However, it *is* a bug that the panflute package
(which, after a bit of investigation, seems to be what you were looking
for) does not show up as a result for "music applet".
Now, that bug is nowhere near severe enough for us to issue a 4.0.x
update to fix it. If it still exists in 5.0, obviously we should fix it.
Unfortunately, panflute is not available for Ubuntu 11.10, so we can't
use that example to determine whether the bug still exists. We need
another test case. I have tried searching for words used in the
summaries of several other packages, and have not been able to reproduce
the bug. It is for that reason that I'm marking this Incomplete. If
anyone can provide an example where searching for complete words in USC
5.0 does not return a package that uses those words, please reopen this
bug report. Thanks.

Title:
Software Centre provides different results for "music applet" and
"applet music"
Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
I wanted to install an applet in my Gnome toolbar (the old one not
unity) to control banshee. I opened Ubuntu Software Centre and
searched for "music applet", which had 1 result ("Guayadeque Music
Player"). I then tried "applet music", and got 2 different results:
("GNOME panel applet to control several music players" and "current
files applet for GNOME".
Word order for searching in the Ubuntu Software Centre should be
irrelevant. Otherwise if I'm searching for some software I'd have to
try multiple permutations of the serach term. It is also confusing
that what I actually want "GNOME panel applet to control several music
players" is only visible when you search for the grammatically
incorrect and unnatural term "applet music".
