[Bug 857086] Re: package apport 1.20.1-0ubuntu5.1 failed to install/upgrade: start: Job failed to start, invoke-rc.d: initscript apport, action "start" failed.
This happens while apport is disabled in /etc/default/apport, i. e.
after release. This is unfortunately how upstart works, but it's just
cosmetical.
** Changed in: apport (Ubuntu)

Title:
package apport 1.20.1-0ubuntu5.1 failed to install/upgrade: start: Job
failed to start, invoke-rc.d: initscript apport, action "start"
failed.
Status in Apport crash detection/reporting:
Invalid
Status in “apport” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
I'm getting this on an apt-get upgrade performed yesterday:
[...]
Setting up python-problem-report (1.20.1-0ubuntu5.1) ...
Processing triggers for python-central ...
Setting up python-apport (1.20.1-0ubuntu5.1) ...
Processing triggers for python-central ...
Setting up apport (1.20.1-0ubuntu5.1) ...
start: Job failed to start
invoke-rc.d: initscript apport, action "start" failed.
Processing triggers for python-central ...
[...]
And in syslog:
Sep 22 06:55:51 ip-xxx init: apport pre-start process (16165) terminated with status 1
Sep 22 06:55:51 ip-xxx init: apport post-stop process (16166) terminated with status 1
I saw other tickets for older apport versions having fixes for
something similar, but not for this version.
apt-get upgrade didn't crash, but I didn't expect it to print out
failure messages.
Happens on:
Description: Ubuntu 11.04
Release: 11.04
