[Bug 868272] Re: Nautilus crashes when accessing home folder shortcuts which are symbolic links
Ok, sure.
"what do you call "computer section", is that in the sidepane? the sidepane is supposed to list standard directories and drives, not symlinks..."
Yes, I meant the sidepane. Since nautilus and several other programs
give special significance to the Documents, Pictures, Downloads etc.
directories, I decided to link ~/Documents etc. to my other harddrive
(which is bigger).
Off-topic: A disadvantage I've noted with symlinks though is that they may behave differently with some programs. The most notable one so far is that the commands "mv" and "cp" doesn't seem to understand symlinks, while commands such as "cd" does. With my setup, this gives unexpected results:
cd ~/Documents && touch foo && mv foo ..
It moves "foo" to /media/500GB instead of to ~. Oh well, I'll cope :)

Title:
Nautilus crashes when accessing home folder shortcuts which are
symbolic links
Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:
Fix Released
Bug description:
I've mapped ~/Documents, ~/Pictures etc. to another harddrive (NTFS);
/media/500GB/Documents, /media/500GB/Pictures etc. (Or actually
~/Dokumenter, ~/Bilder, etc. since I'm using the norwegian version of
Ubuntu). /media/500GB is set up to automount on boot, and lets me
conveniently share my home folders with the Windows 7 installation I'm
dual booting with. Haven't symbolically linked my Windows 7 home
folders to that disk yet though, I don't really use it ;)
When I open a Nautilus window, I can browse around folders (as I
always enjoy doing when I've got some spare time) with no problems. I
can browse to /media/500GB and its subfolders as well. However, if I
click the "Documents" shortcut (or "Pictures" etc.) from the Computer
section (not the Bookmarks section), Nautilus just closes down (I
assume it's some form of a crash).
Edit: It also happens when I try to open the symbolic links by double-clicking or pressing enter on them, so it's probably not got to do with the menu itself. Still works through the terminal though, so the symbolic links themselves are working.
Edit 2: I meant "symbolic", not "semantic" (I've been reading too much about metadata lately)
It worked earlier, so I don't know what's changed.
