thank you for your bug report, did you try to keyboard keybinding to
turn it off and on? could you run "gsettings get org.gnome.settings-
daemon.peripherals.touchpad touchpad-enabled"?

Bug description:
  After I upgraded to Oneiric, my touchpad stopped working. I installed
  gpointing-device-settings and found that it had been disabled. I
  enabled it and it now works fine.
