Title:
gwibber new message field performs poorly

Status in “gwibber” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
On my environment, the semi-transparent new message field performs
very poorly on 11.10. At all times my CPU usage increases
substantially while it's open, and typing lags. In some cases (not
exactly sure what the parameters are), the field nearly hangs on text
entry, to the point I have to restart Gwibber altogether.

I'm happy to provide debug information; I'm not opposed to the theory
this is a configuration issue on my side; unfortunately there is now
way to gracefully degrade the field to the point I can use Gwibber.
This is a fresh install of a 11.10 pre-release build. If it helps, I
have Nvidia proprietary drivers installed, and glxgears runs smoothly:

  ~$ glxgears
  47852 frames in 5.0 seconds = 9568.410 FPS
  47834 frames in 5.0 seconds = 9566.694 FPS
  47654 frames in 5.0 seconds = 9530.287 FPS
