This bug is still very alive.

Curiously, I have number of machines and it only happens in one of them.
This machine uses the nVidia driver and has Xinerama enabled. However, I
have coworkers with the same configuration where the problem does not
happen.

My first reaction (before I saw this bug) was to look at the output of
xev and I can confirm that there is a "ghost" Motion  event between the
clicks.

I'm using plain old metacity.

Let me know if I can help with debugging data or attempt a few things
locally.

  click-to-focus window is too sensitive

Status in “gnome-terminal” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

  in jaunty, when I click a background gnome-terminal window to bring it
  into focus, I frequently end up with text selected in that terminal.
  This clears my (selection) clipboard and severely inhibits the
  clipboard functionality.

  Prior to jaunty this was not a problem.
