Title:
gnome-appearance-manager doesn't set font setting for whole system

Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

  Hi,
when I change font settings with gnome-appearance-properties (standard part of gnome-control-center) - change typeface, hinting, smoothing, whatewer... it's only affecting GTK/Gnome applications. KDE/Qt, Java, OpenOffice, Firefox and many others are not respecting it.

Ubuntu is Gnomecentric distro but i doubt that many users use only
GTK/Gnome applications. GUI tool for changing fonts settings should be
affecting whole system, not only few applications.

For me (and many others) the default setting (Subpixel smoothing) is
unuseable - too blurry. Changing it will result in one big mess in
fonts. Screenshot attached (Firefox is not respecting smoothing and
hinting, KDE apps aren't respecting anything).

Btw. - it's present in every Ubuntu release I can remember. How could
  you NOT notice it? ;)
