[Bug 751803] Re: GNOME Terminal window initially opens at 80x23
Might be related to handling of the menu (which would occupy one row).
Please note that it appears to be buggy in some regards, so it might even consume one row although it's not being displayed. See also bug 863309.

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal
In Ubuntu 11.04 beta 1, when I launch GNOME Terminal from Alt-F2, the
dash, or from a pinned launcher, the initial terminal window is 80x23.
Any additional terminals launched from the launcher or the GNOME
Terminal menu are 80x24 as per the default setting.
