I have the same problem with my HUAWEI E156G HSDPA USB Stick

I will attach the output from the syslog log file after attaching the
USB stick and the output of "lsusb -vv"

Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  If I attach my 3G modem E156G the computer hangs or goes slow (high
  load average) and NM does not detect it. If I attach another modem
  (ie: E169G) everything seems OK.
