Message #32784
[Bug 830320] Re: gnome-appearance-properties using 100% cpu
thank you for your bug report, that utility is deprecated in GNOME3 and
Oneiric so closing the bug, it doesn't seem a bug which will be fixed in
a stable update since there was very low demand for it

Title:
gnome-appearance-properties using 100% cpu
Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
Opening appearance dialog (system-preferences-appearance) and gnome-
appearance-properties went to 98% - 100% cpu usage and remained there
until manually killing the proccess. Repeated the action to be sure it
was that and happend every time, except one but circunstances where
the same. Closing the dialog doesn't solve it.

There are two gnome-appearance-properties processes; one hogging the
cpu and the second sleeping. Closing the window leaves the hogging one
behind (won't end it).
First two times that i opened the appearance dialog, some themes won't
show a preview also. After several theme switching to check if they
worked this stoped happening (for this time at least).
Launching gnome-appearance-properties from a terminal outputs this:
(gnome-appearance-properties:12149): Gdk-CRITICAL **:
IA__gdk_display_sync: assertion `GDK_IS_DISPLAY (display)' failed
