Title:
Compose key broken when assigned to certain keys
Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
Binary package hint: gnome-control-center
Choosing certain keys to be the "Compose key" using keyboard preferences does not work.
On my computer, the Left and Right Win keys (command on my MacBook Pro) are set to "Super key" by default. Setting either one of them as Compose in gnome-keyboard-properties stops that key from acting as Super key, but does not cause it to function as Compose. The only response that I have noticed is that it changes the color of the frame of some active text entry areas, as if unselecting it. This occurs for multiple keyboard layouts (USA, Spain) and models (Generic 101-key PC, Apple MacBook/MacBook Pro (Intl)). The Compose functions correctly when other positions are chosen (Left Control, Caps Lock).
I am running natty with unity on a MacBook Pro 1,1 (2006 model). Changing this setting used to work in lucid and maverick without problems.
To recreate, open system settings/hardware/keyboard/layouts/options/compose key position and choose Left or Right Win. Notice the key stops functioning as a super key but cannot be used as compose (try any accented characters).
