[Bug 494541] Re: Sound files are opended by Music Player even though Rhythmbox is preffered application
I can't reproduce this in 11.10. I tried opening .mp3 and .ogg files;
they open in the default music player (Banshee). I tested several video
files as well (.mov, .mp4, .avi, .wmv) and they correctly open in totem.

Sound files are opended by Music Player even though Rhythmbox is
preffered application

Bug description:
With the default install off Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic) the sound files are
set to open with Movie Player by default (in Nautilus) even though in
System/Preferences/Preferred Application/Multimedia the Multimedia
Player is set to Rythmbox Music Player (also by default).
How to reproduce this bug:
1 Make default install of Ubuntu 9.10
2 open the examples that ship with Ubuntu (in Nautilus)
3 click on the ogg sound file (e.g. Aesop's Fables,_Volume_1...spx) (in Nautilus)
Result:
Movie Player opens and plays the file.
4 Try to set the preferred Application for Multimedia to Rythmbox
Music Player (System/Preferences/Preferred Application/Multimedia)
Result:
Rythmbox Music Play is already set by default.
This is somewhat surprising. :-)
Expected result:
a) use a Music Player to play music by default (and not a Video Player - this is perhaps just a matter of naming)
b) Nautilus should respect the setting in Preferred Applications (default in Nautilus should always be equal to the setting in Preferred Applications)
To summarize:
The setting in Preferred Applications do not seem to have any affect on the default application with which Nautilus opens a file and there is no hint if there are additional steps necessary in order make Nautilus respect the users choice for the default (preferred) application.
