Herwith I add a .xsession-errors without the issue being triggered. The
most striking thing are the following two lines missing (which are
present when the issue occurs).

** (gnome-settings-daemon:1423): WARNING **: You can only run one xsettings manager at a time; exiting
** (gnome-settings-daemon:1423): WARNING **: Unable to start xsettings manager: Could not initialize xsettings manager.

Maybe a race condition?

Title:
  The theme sometimes changes to fallback theme on itself, can't change
  it back

Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  In spite of the fact that the fallback theme is the one in use, my
  original theme still remains selected in Appearance. I can't change
  the theme, because clicking on other themes only changes it for the
  window of the program "Appearance", other windows stay with the
  fallback theme. The icon theme will stay the fallback even in the
  Apprearance window. After I log out and back in, everything is fine.

  I don't know how to reproduce it yet. It happens like once in 2 weeks.
